PREFACE

By Anthony J. DeCosta, D.C.

One of my early Chiropractic professors and mentors was Thomas L. Whitehorne, D.C.  Dr. Whitehorne was a highly recognized Chiropractic educator and a sage of Chiropractic philosophy.

One of Dr. Whitehorne’s favorite sayings was, “In a Chiropractic office, the impossible occurs everyday… - miracles take a little longer!”

The stories written here are the actual accounts of how Chiropractic care helped and, in some cases, - completely changed these patient’s lives.  These patients wrote their stories in the hope that by sharing their Chiropractic experiences they might help others experience a more healthy and fulfilled life.

It should be noted that while many of these cases presented with various types of symptoms and problems, at no time were these patients being treated specifically for any disease or condition.  Instead, all these patients were being attended to have their vertebral subluxations corrected.  (Vertebral subluxation(s) interferes with the body’s vital life energy (Innate Intelligence)and results in malfunction, disorder and dis-ease.)  By correcting vertebral subluxations through Chiropractic adjustments, the Innate Power within the body is released so that, in turn, the Wisdom that created the body is free to express itself and carry on the process of repair and restoration, resulting in a state of true health and wellness.

If you would like to share how Chiropractic care has helped you, please feel free to submit your story to us as well.  We will be happy to share it with others.

ARM, LEG AND CHEST PAINS GONE THROUGH CHIROPRACTIC CARE

It all started about a year and a half ago when I began having chest pains.  I had been going to my family doctor who, at first, prescribed Valium because he thought it was my nerves due to the fact that I was getting married in a few weeks.  I went back before my wedding with the same complaint, and I was given another form of Valium and two muscle relaxers.  This only made me sleepy.   After my honeymoon, the pains got worse.  It wasn’t only in the chest any longer, it was running down my left arm and leg too.  I began to think something was seriously wrong with me.  I felt no relief and I was taking five different pills every four hours.  My pharmacy bill from September 1979 to March 1980 was over $135.00.  So, I went to another doctor – a cardiologist.  He did a stress test and an echocardiogram.  That trip cost me $144.00 for the office visit and another $350.00 for the tests.  He told me it was a pinched nerve in my neck and that I would have to wear a neck brace.

Then, my brother told me about Chiropractic.  At first, I didn’t believe this could help me.  However, after all I had been through, I decided it was worth a try.

My x-rays showed a bad neck as a result of a car accident I had six years ago.  I started going for adjustments three times a week for four weeks and soon the pain started to subside.  Now, it has been three months that I have been seeing Dr. DeCosta, and I’m happy to say I have no chest pains and feel better all the way around.  I am also off all the medication I was taking, as I have no need of it.

Chiropractic isn’t a fast process – it takes time.  But, isn’t your body and health worth it ?  The moral of the story is… you’ve tried the rest, now try the best, to feel healthier, happier and to save your money.

CAME IN FOR NECK PAIN AND STAYED FOR THE HEALTH OF IT

A stiff neck that would not go away on its own brought us to Dr. Anthony DeCosta.

At the time, our son was having some neck problems related to working in small cramped areas at his job.  He told us he was finding relief with chiropractic adjustments and recommended we pay a visit to his chiropractor, Dr. DeCosta.

And so, our initial visit turned into a regular weekly visit.  We became educated through the Chiropractic educational program that was made available to us.  The whole idea behind the program was that chiropractic adjustments were not only for when you had a problem, but were a way to maintain preventative health and wellness.

We continued with our initial intensive and rehabilitative stages of care and now twenty-six years have gone by and we still come each week to be checked.  We have no major illnesses to speak of.  We believe that keeping our bodies in good physical shape and our minds spiritually fed is our responsibility.

When my father came to live with us at the age of eighty years, we brought him along to see Dr. DeCosta also.  He lived to be ninety-six years old and always walked out of Dr. DeCosta’s office standing straight and tall.

I guess you could say we believe in chiropractic adjustments and continue to tell this good news to others.

CHILDHOOD FALLS AND CHIROPRACTIC
A number of years ago, while playing, our 6-year-old son fell from a height of about 6 feet, landing on his head on a concrete floor. He was knocked unconscious and was rushed to the hospital by paramedics where he received  X-rays and a cat scan.  Thankfully, nothing was broken, though he remained unconscious for several hours, much to the dismay of the medical staff attending him. When he finally regained consciousness he was groggy and sluggish. The doctor decided to keep him overnight for observation.

When he was released the following morning, he left the hospital still lethargic and sluggish. Since our entire family had been receiving regular chiropractic care, we made the immediate decision to take him straight to Dr. DeCosta's office without even stopping at home.

He dragged his feet walking into the office but, after a thorough adjustment, ended up almost skipping out of the office with a grin on his face, asking if we could get some ice cream on the way home.  The transformation was amazing!  We knew that chiropractic "worked" but this was the ultimate "proof of the pudding!"

CHIROPRACTIC AND PREGNANCY

Chiropractic has a meaning of its own - but to me, it means my two little girls - Kristen and Kimberly.  I would not have an eight year old and a five year old without Chiropractic and Dr. DeCosta.

I was one of Dr. DeCosta’s first patients.  I started going to him for other ailments, never thinking a Chiropractor could help me carry a pregnancy.  I had lost three pregnancies in two years, and my gynecologist could not come up with any physical reason why I wasn’t able to carry a baby.  So, my husband and I were going through adoption proceedings.  In fact, we were already approved and just waiting for that final call that said we could come and pick up our baby, when I became pregnant for the fourth time.  As my pregnancy neared that critical time when I had lost the other babies (in the fourth month), I continued seeing Dr. DeCosta on a weekly basis.  I could not have had a more normal pregnancy and in the spring of 1981, I gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl.  And, in March of 1984, I had another beautiful baby girl!  No one can convince me that these little girls are truly not Chiropractic Babies!!  They each were only four days old when Dr. DeCosta adjusted them, and they have been healthy and happy babies and now little girls.

We still come to Dr. DeCosta on a weekly basis, and with God’s Blessing, will continue for many, many years.

COMPLICATIONS FROM HEART SURGERY HELPED BY CHIROPRACTIC

It is with distinct pleasure that I write this testimonial.

To begin with, I had to go through open-heart surgery to correct a heart defect (valve).  Immediately after the surgery I had a problem with eating.  Nevertheless, I was sent home after ten days of hospitalization.

After being home for approximately two weeks, it was necessary to call 911 because my heart was acting up (245 heats per minute).

A number of complications, which took place while I was hospitalized, caused me to spend a total of 102 days on my back.  I was released to spend more time with a feeding tube for sustenance.

After the removal of the feeding tube, I was able to carefully ambulate (walk around the house).  This is when I discovered I could not effectively use my left arm.  I was left with approximately 20-25% mobility with that arm.

After eight weeks and three visits to an orthopedic doctor, I was told that I had achieved approximately 40% of side movement and would remain at that point without surgery.

My wife, Clarabelle, has been going to Dr. DeCosta faithfully for a number of years.  I have only gone on occasions when I thought I could use it – like 3 or 4 times a year.

This time I needed help from somebody real bad and put myself in the hands of Dr. DeCosta.  Three treatments a week for approximately two months, now weekly I am happy to say, and I have 80-90% use of my left arm, and I anticipate that shortly I will regain full mobility.

Thanks go to you Dr. DeCosta.  You didn’t give up on me as others did.  Thank you also to your extra friendly staff.  God bless you all.

CRIPPLING LOW BACK PAIN

In February 2005, I had been hurt three times; once, I hurt my shoulder at work; a second injury occurred to my back while lifting chairs; and a third injury occurred to my back again while installing commercial carpet.

I recall it was a Saturday and by the time 4:00PM came around, I had to leave my job because of the tremendous pain in my lower back.  After two weeks out of work, I returned to my job for just one day.  The next morning I couldn’t get out of bed.

I went to see one chiropractor, but that didn’t work out.  My cousin Maryann contacted my cousin Joe who immediately took me to see his chiropractor, Dr. DeCosta.

When I first went to see Dr. DeCosta, I couldn’t even stand up for any period of time.  I literally had to get on the floor and onto my knees to be able to just tolerate the pain.  I had been severely injured and I just wanted to feel good again and be able to return to work.  I was becoming depressed.

Dr. DeCosta perfectly adjusted my back without the use of any electrical devices, unlike the first chiropractor I saw.  The pain started to be reduced and I slowly gained flexibility.  Upon Dr. DeCosta’s recommendation, I joined a local health club and started to walk in their pool.  The combination of Dr. DeCosta’s adjustments and the aqua therapy worked.

Dr. DeCosta put me back together again to a state of 100% health and fitness!  After missing work for 3 ½ months, I finally returned to my construction job and hardwood floor installation.  I now lift weights, stay active and feel great thanks to the fine job Dr. DeCosta did for me.

Thank you Dr. DeCosta and his excellent secretary Dee who always had a smile and enjoyable conversation.

DANCING AGAIN WITH NO MORE HIP PROBLEMS, THANKS TO

CHIROPRACTIC!!

I’m Mildred G.  I have been seeing Dr. DeCosta for one and one half years and I can’t begin to thank him for the relief he’s given me.

He has been adjusting me for a pain in my hip that I’ve had for years and was getting worse as I was getting older.  I’ve been to more than one M.D. and I was put in traction and given therapy, with my condition being no better than when I started with these doctors, “not to mention the money I put out for medication and treatment.”

Then, talking to a neighbor, she suggested that I try a chiropractor and recommended Dr. DeCosta.  Well, he was my last hope, and I was glad I went when I did.  If it wasn’t for Chiropractic and him, I couldn’t be dancing my polkas, anymore.

Results like this is why I keep coming to Dr. DeCosta.

Thanks Doc.

Mildred G.

DANCING, WALKING AND PLAYING AGAIN!

I never thought I would ever write a letter like this.  I never believed in a Chiropractor, even though my husband, son and daughter were patients at one time or another.

My daughter carried twins, and because of that, she got all out of alignment.  After giving birth, she had back and leg pain to the extent that she could not walk!

She was breast-feeding and did not want any medication so she went to a Chiropractor, and was able to feed and take care of the twins.  Even that did not sway me and I was there to help and take care of her and the girls.

While carrying books at work one day, I fell forward on my knees on nails that came up through the new floor.  I went to five different orthopedic doctors, seven months of therapy five days a week, three days, two days… until my insurance ran out. They said there was nothing they could do for me!  I had a pinched nerve in my left leg and had constant pain.

After spending a month on the couch with pain, not being able to do anything, I finally came to see Dr. DeCosta.  The rest is history!!!  I have been a patient for eight months and I am much better.  I see Dr. DeCosta every two weeks.  If I do too much work, I have to go more often, but I can live again, dance, walk and play with my three beautiful granddaughters.  That is important to me!!!

Thanks to Dr. DeCosta, my life is much better.

FROM A BAD FALL TO A STAR ATHLETE AND SOLDIER

My son, Jonathan, had fallen on a tree stump when he was in elementary school.  (He is now 37.)  He was in excruciating pain and had difficulty sitting, as well as performing normal activities.

The orthopedic doctor I took him to gave him exercises to do at home.  When he tried to do the exercises, tears rolled down his cheeks.  I immediately took him back to the orthopedist, who told me he recommended putting Jon in traction.  In my heart of hearts, I knew there had to be something else that could be done.

I contacted Dr. DeCosta and asked what he would do if Jon were his son.  Dr. DeCosta told me to get Jon’s x-rays and to bring them and Jon in to see him.  After less than a month of treatment by Dr. DeCosta, my son was able to resume all his activities without pain.

In fact, in high school, he was a star wrestler and standout football player!  While in college, Jon completed ROTC training and served seven years in the United States Army.

I’ll never forget what Dr. DeCosta did for him.

Thank you Dr. DeCosta.

HELP WITH ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADHD)

I wanted to write this letter to thank you beyond words for helping my son Nicholas.

I have to admit; I was a little skeptical of Chiropractors at first.

I listened to Kevin say how much better he felt after coming to you.  I decided it was time I had an open mind so I started reading your pamphlets on what Chiropractic care was.

We had been having a problem with Nicholas, who is eight, in school.  According to his teacher at our Parent/Teacher Conference in November, he was disruptive in class, was constantly out of his seat and his grades were good, but not great.  In fact, this last report card on February 1 showed he went down in some subjects.  His teacher felt I should have him tested for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and suggested that he be put on Ritalin.  She suggested this numerous times.

I thought about a lot of the things I read in your pamphlets pertaining to children and all of the other information there was to read.

I then called your office and spoke to Joan and asked her opinion on if you could help Nicholas.  She said you would call me back and you did that same night.

Nicholas and I (yes, me the skeptic) started coming to you on January 29,1999.

I am pleased to say, that as of today:  Nicholas has been remaining is his seat at School, he has gotten 100% on two tests, he is reading and concentrating more and he has just received a Handwriting Award for his cursive writing.

You have helped us more that you could ever imagine.  I am not only referring to what adjustments you do to us, but you have also been great for his self-esteem.  He looks forward to coming to you and telling you about his good grades because you make him feel you’re as proud of him as we are.

As for me, I can honestly say I am no longer the skeptic on Chiropractic Care.

Thank you again, Dr. DeCosta and Staff.

HELP WITH BACK, SHOULDER AND NECK PROBLEMS

I just wanted to take time out to thank Dr. DeCosta and to share my experience of Chiropractic care.

I started coming to Dr. DeCosta for severe back, shoulder and neck pain.  I tried an M.D. and a D.O., known for such problems.  Both gave me muscle relaxers and told me I needed therapy.  After several weeks and no difference, I didn’t go back.  I was having trouble doing my daily routines and my job.  I am a hair stylist and my arms are constantly held up.  I was hesitant about going to a Chiropractor.  I didn’t know much about them and was afraid.  I heard a lot about Dr. DeCosta through many customers at work.  They told me they really thought he could help me.

They say all good things come in time and that surely is the truth.  After several adjustments, I started to feel better and my pain started to decrease.  I had some good days and some bad days but I continued to go for adjustments, as I didn’t expect it to go away over night.  I went regularly and I started to see a remarkable change.  Not only has Dr. DeCosta helped my back, shoulder and neck problems, but to my overwhelming surprise, he has also helped my menstrual cramps and P.M.S.  My sleeping habits have improved and I feel like a human being again.

Thanks, Dr. DeCosta, for continually caring about your patients.  Given time, no doubt we will all be feeling much better.

HIP AND BACK PAIN FINALLY GONE

In 1992 my husband and I moved from Queens, NY to Edison, NJ.  I had problems with my back for years and had been treated by a chiropractor in NY before our move. After being in New Jersey for several months, I could not tolerate the back pain any more so I went to my family doctor who prescribed a muscle relaxer for me.  I filled the prescription, but did not take the pills, and went to a local chiropractor instead.  Nothing he did seemed to help too much, but there was a little relief from time to time.  One day after a treatment by this chiropractor, I could hardly get in my car, - I was in so much pain.  I went back into the office and told the nurse.  The chiropractor gave me a few more adjustments, and I left shakily.  I drove home, and never went back to that chiropractor again and had been very skeptical about chiropractors for a long time since.

I continually had daily hip and back pain.  Probably popping pills that would hide the pain but not fix the problem would have been my next course of action, but I don’t like to take medication unless it is absolutely the last resort.

After my previous experience, I was adamant that I would never go to a chiropractor anymore.  Because of his back pain, my husband began going to a chiropractor that was recommended to him by his auto mechanic.  They both spoke very highly of this chiropractor, which we know as Dr. Anthony DeCosta.  My husband tried to convince me to try this chiropractor, but I was too frightened.  Dr. DeCosta mailed to a group of his clients a certificate for a free evaluation, no obligation, that could be passed on to anyone whom they thought might benefit from chiropractic.  My husband told me to get checked out and I still hesitated, but ultimately felt why not get this man’s opinion since it was free.

After my initial visit with Dr. DeCosta I felt more confident in his abilities and made an appointment to have my first adjustment by him. After only two or three adjustments the hip pain was almost forgotten about.  X-rays showed how off my hips were, how crooked my spine was and that my neck curve was very bad.  That has been more than ten years ago.  Without the help of Dr. DeCosta I don't know where I'd be right now.

Almost two years ago, my husband and I moved to south NJ, about an hour and 15 minutes from Dr. DeCosta’s office.  Never the less, we still make the trip on a fairly regular basis for our adjustments.  There is no other chiropractor I feel I can trust.  He is professional, friendly, and caring and worth the time and mileage.  His staff is also efficient and friendly.

Chiropractors are great if they are good ones, especially if you have back or neck problems. I am very thankful for my Chiropractor and his associates.

I WALKED INTO DR. DECOSTA'S OFFICE…

I walked into Dr. DeCosta’s office with shooting pain in my left leg, which began over two years ago.  I left feeling only a slight soreness after a few adjustments.

I walked into Dr. DeCosta’s office on a Tuesday, with a cortisone injection scheduled to go into my spine on Saturday.  I left feeling 95% of the pain gone!  By the next day, I cancelled that appointment.

I walked into Dr. DeCosta’s office with many questions.  I left with the answers other doctors either could not, or would not tell me.

I walked into Dr. DeCosta’s office unable to go on long trips.  Sitting in a car for more than one hour at a time was painful.  I left feeling so good; I had renewed hope of our dream of retirement in an RV.

I walked into Dr. DeCosta’s office with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).  For many years I suffered debilitating stomach cramping, several times to the point of hospitalization; always to be told by the doctors, “there’s nothing wrong with you”.  I left feeling relaxed and surprised to find that within one month, the symptoms had disappeared.

I walked into Dr. DeCosta’s office with severe menstrual and ovulation cramps.  What used to be days of pain relievers, have turned into minor discomfort.

I walked into Dr. DeCosta’s office thinking Tylenol, Percocet and Bentyl were the answers to life’s little problems.  I left with new perspective on wellness, and how God had equipped our bodies to heal themselves with proper spinal alignment.

I walked into Dr. DeCosta’s office, expecting to meet another doctor.  I left finding a new friend who truly cared that I was in pain, and wanted to help me to get better.

I walked into Dr. DeCosta’s office by myself, thinking a Chiropractor could  possibly, only help me.  I left feeling so different, I wanted to share this with my family and friends.

I now walk into Dr. DeCosta’s office with one of my family members.  My husband and three children began coming shortly after seeing the difference in my life.  I leave now, with my next appointment made, eager to return.

Thank you, Dr. DeCosta, for all you have done for my family and me.

“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.”  Philippians 1:3

IBS AND THE DR. WITH THE MIRACLE HANDS!

My journey through this life has often been a painful one physically.  In fact, more than I care to admit!  After years of doctors visits and tests too numerous to count, I was always told the same thing; - “I have GREAT news for you - we found NOTHING wrong with you.”

Yes, good news at first; however, the endless abdominal pain continued on a daily basis.  When I asked the doctor for pain medication the answer was, “No, because that can mask a problem”, even though a problem was never found.  Talk about utter frustration!  As a result of the pain and frustration, depression now became a part of the picture.  Getting up in the morning only left me looking forward to going to bed at night to take a sleeping pill and not feel the pain.  One doctor did prescribe Xanax three times a day….which I interpreted as being near  COMATOSE!  After all the doctors and all the tests, the end result was a diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), which is the conclusion they come to when they can find nothing else physically wrong with you.

I had pretty much reached the end of the line with doctors.  About that time, my son-in-law was fortunate to find and be a patient of Dr. DeCosta’s.  He was going for low back pain and doing wonderfully!  He mentioned my diagnosis and emotional condition to Dr. DeCosta and asked if something could be done with chiropractic.  The answer was a positive YES.  It took some convincing, as I had pretty much given up and accepted a life of pain, but I finally came into the office, had the required x-rays taken, and sat with Dr. DeCosta to go over all the exam results and start a corrective chiropractic program.

I worried for days before coming for my first adjustment because no one could even come near my abdomen, let alone could I imagine lying on a table that would come up and hit that area.  After the first few visits, I thought “not bad”; the adjustment did not hurt.  I also noticed how wonderfully I slept on the nights I received my adjustments…without a sleep aide to boot!

One day the pain was more severe than it had been.  My impulse was to call and cancel my appointment because I could not imagine that table coming up to meet my abdomen.  However, I resisted my impulse and thought I would tell Dr. DeCosta NOT to do that area.  Before I knew it the visit was over and he DID adjust me, and my abdomen absolutely did not hurt!  When I got home, my abdomen was no longer distended or painful…amazing!  Now on those days when there is pain I cannot wait to go get an adjustment…go figure!  The days of severe bloating, distention and pain are getting less, after only three months of adjustments twice a week.

My family and I have also noticed fewer days of flair ups and I have a much better attitude and outlook.  As my daughter says, I am getting back to my old feisty self!  I am also going out more often.

In the meantime, I am impressed that Dr. DeCosta has taken time to learn more about IBS and its treatment from a chiropractic, nutritional and emotional stand point.  This gives me (The Skeptic) even more confidence.  I have gone from a “What have I got to loose?” attitude to recommending chiropractic care to everyone I know - with Dr. DeCosta, of course!

There is one more thing I would like to comment on.  The office is a joy to come to.  Both Linda and Linda are friendly, warm and genuine people who take an interest in every patient and their families.  It is a warm and home-like atmosphere.  Dr. DeCosta is also warm and genuine.  He honestly cares about his patients as people, not only their physical problems.  That’s something not often found in the world today.

LEG, HIP AND SCIATIC PAIN GONE

In February of 1974, I had a very severe case of sciatic pain.  Being in Florida and not knowing of any physicians there, I was in a bind.  I was already taking about 10 pills a day for heart and blood pressure problems since 1954.

I decided no more pills should be added, so I looked in the yellow pages of the phone directory and found a chiropractor a couple of blocks from our apartment.  His name was Dr. Schleuter.  In just three adjustments, I was OK.  Then, just two weeks before starting north, I missed a step leaving the apartment and ZINGO…the pain again!  Two more adjustments fixed that up.  I was OK for about four years.  Then, I started to have slight pains , but I ignored them as they were not too bad.  But, this autumn, they started to get worse and spread to include both hips, knees, calves and ankles.

Upon the advice of a friend, Mrs. Erika G., I started going to Dr. DeCosta.  After nine visits, the pain diminished quite a bit, so it was no longer unbearable.

Then, I had my yearly physical check-up at my heart doctor’s office.  To my surprise, my blood pressure had gone from 168/86 to 146/76 and there was a note on my EKG that stated “somewhat improved.”

I credit this one shot improvement to the chiropractic adjustments.  I realize that this is not a very scientific or thorough test, but if the improvement stays on, chiropractic is the answer as far as I am concerned!

MY LIFE HAS COMPLETELY CHANGED BECAUSE OF CHIROPRACTIC

I walked with a cane.  I took aspirin or ibuprofen nearly everyday for severe pain, often more than once a day.  I held onto the counter to do the dishes because if I didn’t I fell down.  I missed work because I could not – literally could absolutely not – get out of bed, or even turn onto my side.  Standing up was impossible, sometimes for weeks.  I could not go grocery shopping because I couldn’t lift the bags.  I had difficulty lifting more than a coffee cup.  I couldn’t go for long drives with my sweetheart because I couldn’t sit that long.  I wore bifocals with prisms.  I never went out dancing anymore.  Sex was almost out of the question.  I was 27.

I had seen five different medical doctors that year, all who had prescribed painkillers.  They killed not only the pain, but also the recollection of my own name.  I was carried one night in the arms of my sister to my mother’s house.  Luckily she called.  I had confused the medications and was completely delirious.     I knew, the next day, that I had to do something “drastic.”  All else had failed. So, in a last ditch effort, I came to see Dr. De Costa.

After one week, I was walking with no cane.  That was three months ago.  I don’t take any medication or aspirin at all.  I don’t need it now.  Now, I laugh a lot.  I feel young again, like I’m supposed to.  I dream of owning a dishwasher, instead  of wondering how I’ll get up if I let go of the counter.  I only get in trouble at work if I sleep late.  Now, I sleep the whole night.  My fiancé and I take long walks now, and even long drives, sometimes.  We believe a family is a real idea.  And, after 12 years, I don’t have prisms in my glasses anymore.

God Bless You, Dr. DeCosta.

NO MORE BED WETTING THANKS TO CHIROPRACTIC

I first started coming to the Chiropractor when I was about 6 months pregnant.  I had a fall directly onto my tailbone and at the time was performing exercises routinely for pregnant women.  I no longer could do my sit-ups.  After coming for chiropractic care for about two months, I could finally do sit-ups.  At the same time I brought my children in for check-ups and my oldest son, who is 5 years old, was found to have scoliosis.  He was also wetting the bed.  Dr. DeCosta said we might see a change in that, since when the bottom part of one’s back is out, it can affect all major pelvic organs.

Sure enough, in about two months time, coming into the office three times a week, he finally stopped wetting the bed.  A couple of times, he has fallen and put his back out of place – the bed-wetting started again.  We just brought him back in for an adjustment and he was OK again.  I especially took notice when he had fallen to see if Chiropractic would help…   It made believers out of us.

My third pregnancy was a delight and my delivery was virtually painless.  I know this is unbelievable, but it is the truth!

NO MORE HIP PROBLEMS AND BREATHING DIFFICULTIES

Like most people, I believed all cures came from a needle or a pill.  Anything else, I felt, was hard to believe.  Like a lot of people, I was a bit skeptical on trying something else, wanting only what we’ve been brainwashed into believing.

And like so many other people, I spent many days in pain, discomfort, and often felt grouchy without knowing why.  I grew up on the sidelines of sports because my breathing was limited.   I was told by many medical doctors that my shortness of breath was either from a birth defect or because I grew too fast.  (I was 6ft. before age 16.)  Often, I was told my body required me to take many naps.

After many years of frustration, a strange accident happened that eventually would open my eyes.  By trade, I am an over the road truck driver, so back aches are not uncommon.

So, two years ago, the aches I had lived with grew worse when I was climbing out of my truck.  As I stepped from my truck, I felt myself falling.  I grabbed for the handle on the side of my cab and, in doing so, my body twisted awkwardly.  I felt pain and fell to the ground.

I was taken to the hospital, x-rayed, probed and finally ended up in traction for a full week.  For months after that, I visited several “Specialists” (orthopedists); the verdict was that I would never walk right again, never dance again and periodically my married life would be interrupted.  I started walking like a cross between “The Mummy” and “Quasimodo”  (The Hunchback of Notre Dame).

I was told the only possible relief would be several operations, which consisted of turning the hip and pinning it, or replacing the hip joint with a ball and socket prosthesis onto the femur.  Also, I would have to wear a special brace for the lower back and spine.  Only 1 out of 5 doctors told me what to expect – much discomfort and other problems.

I started hearing about Chiropractic care from several people.  Many people have told me of their experiences.

So, I said “WHY NOT!”  I made the appointment with Dr. DeCosta two years ago.  I was told what to expect and said, “let’s go.”  Since the two years I’ve been treated by Dr. DeCosta, I now walk straight, enjoy sports, my breathing is normal, I sleep better and enjoy the things I was told I would never do again.  From a person who was told that he would never walk right again, I’ve won three contests in the martial arts and I am preparing for a Black belt promotion.

Many of my friends and relatives are amazed at the difference in my personality.  I am 40 years old and have been told by people that I have the stamina of a person much younger.  Now that I feel better, my disposition and personality have improved.

I tell everybody I see, that is not feeling well, that instead of reaching for a pill to reach for the yellow pages or to seek a recommendation … just get to a chiropractor.

There was once a commercial on T.V. that stated “Nature’s way is best.”   So, why fool with nature and how the Almighty created the best machine going?

NO MORE UPPER BACK PROBLEMS

I had suffered with an upper back problem for over five years.  It had gotten so bad that riding over bumps in a car became a painful experience.  I had to give up golf and alter my lifestyle.  During this time, I had been getting treatments off and on from various chiropractors; in some instances there was temporary, mild relief only to have the pain return shortly.

Approximately one year ago, I went for an examination with Dr. DeCosta.  Almost immediately, Dr. DeCosta diagnosed my problem through x-rays and other means.  He determined I had a subluxation and treated it accordingly.  His technique was much different from any other chiropractor I had ever been to, much more gentle.  Gradually the pain began to subside and not come back.

Now, a year or so later, I am in good shape.  I go for regular maintenance adjustments and my back is feeling better than it has in years.

I recommend Dr. DeCosta to anyone who may have chiropractic needs.  His treatments are excellent and his knowledge of the body is tremendous.

Thank you for your help.

“ONE GOOD DAY”

For the past three years, all I’ve hoped for was, at best, “one good day” without pain.

Having been through surgery, physical therapy, angioplasty, and cervical epidurals – let me not overlook the mountain of various pills and painkillers - all without relief .  I was told my choices were either to live with the pain or face yet another surgical procedure.

Not being able to accept any more procedures, my cousin, knowing of my plight, made an appointment for me to see her doctor.

In July of ’96, I had my very first Chiropractic adjustment.  It is now October, and may I say, “I’ve had my one good day, and many others.”

Dr. DeCosta, thank you for my “one good day” and all the others that have followed.  Thank you, because I am able to reach up into the cupboard for a glass without pain down to my fingertips; thank you because I’ve walked and shopped – pain-free!

You have accomplished in three months what others couldn’t do in three years.  Without your care and concern, I’m certain that I would not have been able to write this well-earned and all-deserving testimonial.

And, of course, a thank you to my cousin for making that appointment for me with her Doctor!

With sincere thanks,

June S.

POST PARTUM PAINS GONE

After my delivery, I had very bad back pains and my legs would hurt very badly when I walk.  It was a very difficult time for me, being a new mom and going through so much pain.  That’s when I was recommended to go to a neurosurgeon, who then sent me for physical therapy.  I would say I got relief to some extent, but I was looking for a better treatment.

That was when I was recommended Chiropractic treatment by one of my friends.  I would say it has really changed my life!  I am able to do more things than before without being in pain.  The pain I used to have in my legs while walking is gone.  I still do the exercises recommended to me, which helps me to stretch.  I would recommend chiropractic treatment to anybody in pain because it truly CHANGES YOUR LIFE for the BETTER!

Thank you Dr. DeCosta for giving me an opportunity to give my testimony and for your help in getting me better.

POST SURGICAL NECK PROBLEMS RELIEVED

I must thank you so very much for keeping me in good health for the past five years.  I was in a terrible state when I first walked into your office.  After a few visits and good care, I was a happier and better person to be around.  The adjustments made it easier to cope with the sewn muscle in my neck and my general well being improved tremendously.

Thank you again, Doctor.

SHOULDER AND ANKLE PAIN RESOLVED WITH CHIROPRACTIC

For five years, I was going to different medical doctors for relief of a pain in my shoulder and my ankle.

My left shoulder was at the point where I could barely raise my left arm to even be level with my shoulder.  My ankle ached so badly that I had to sleep in a fetal position at night in order to relieve the pain.

The five medical doctors’ analyses were as follows:

1.      Cortisone shots in the ankle

2.      Stretching exercise for the left leg

3.      A harness to be worn in bed to stretch all ligaments

4.      “You were born that way and have to live with it.”  (Orthopedic Specialist)

5.      Pills to relax the muscles

After all of the above advice/recommendations, the problems still existed.  I was becoming exceedingly frustrated, my blood pressure was very high, and my temperament unbearable and my everyday life became harrowing.  Some people are identified as having “a short fuse”.  I was a prime example.

One day, I was discussing the problem with my niece (a nurse) and a friend who both recommended a chiropractor to relieve the stress and strain.  Being uncertain, and remembering the old clichés about chiropractors, I was a little reluctant.  But, after analyzing the situation, I decided there was nothing to lose.  So, off I went to the chiropractor.

The results, even after the first treatment, were amazing.  My wife and daughters found that they could live with me again!  I have continued treatment for the past 2½  years; to my amazement, my left shoulder and arm are no longer a problem.  My left ankle still bothers me from time to time, but an adjustment will always rectify the problem.  My blood pressure is under control and my golf swing has improved!

All in all, I can honestly say that Chiropractic methods have helped me live a more normal and enjoyable life.

P.S.  My secretary also says that chiropractic has made me a more tolerable boss.

YEARS OF SUFFERING WITH BACK PAIN GONE!

Dr. DeCosta,

Words cannot express my thanks and gratitude.  I am approaching my one-year anniversary since I first started working with you and am amazed how you have changed my life.  I have suffered from back pain for so many years.  I tried everything doctors recommended to help relieve my pain but nothing seemed to work for more than a few weeks.

It was a little over a year ago that I had decided it was time to consider the long feared idea of back surgery.  It seemed as if this was my only option left.  After an appointment with my doctor, he suggested one last resort, chiropractic care.  I immediately thought of you.  Dr. DeCosta, I have known you for so many years and yet, I never thought your care could ever help me.  But I can honestly say I was completely wrong and should have considered such treatment years ago.  It would have saved me from years of pain and frustration.

It has been almost a year since I began working with you and I feel like you given me my life back.  I can do things I never was able to do without suffering from my back pain.  You are an amazing man and I am just so grateful I gave you a chance.  Words cannot express how much you have helped me and what it has meant to me.  God bless you always!!  You are a miracle worker!!
